Minimum Educational Qualification for becoming Primary Teacher for Classes I-V (Primary Stage)

Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks for unreserved candidates and 45 % in case of SC, ST,OBC(Central),OBC(State) and passed or appearing* in the final year of 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education ( D. El. Ed). OR

Sikkim TET 2020 Sikkim Teacher Eligibility Test Study Materials

STET (Sikkim Teacher Eligibility Test) will be conducted once in a year.

A person who has qualified STET may also appear again for improving his/her score in the following years.

All candidates who pass the STET will be awarded certificate .The validity of certificate will be till he/she crosses the employability age as per the State Government norms. However, it does not cover the special exemption of higher age given to the temporary in-service employees.

A Candidate who scores 60% or more in TET will be considered TET pass. 5 % relaxation of marks is applicable to SC/ST, Central & State OBC candidates.

Paper I

Nature and content of Question:

  1. The Test items on Child Development and Pedagogy will focus on Educational Psychology of Teaching and Learning relevant to the age group of 6-11years.
  2. The Test items for language-I will focus on the proficiencies related to the Medium of instruction that is English.
  3. The Language-II will be from among the prescribed options other than Language-I. A candidate may choose from any one of the vernaculars being taught in the schools of Sikkim from Classes I to V. The applicants will have to specify the language in his/her Application form.
  4. The test items in Mathematics and Environmental Studies will focus on the concepts, problem solving abilities and pedagogical understandings of the subjects prescribed for classes I to V in the State.
  5. The questions will be based on syllabus for classes I to V, but their difficulty level, as well as linkage, will be up to the secondary stage.

Paper 2

Nature and content of questions

  1. The test items on Child Development and Pedagogy will focus on Educational Psychology of Teaching and Learning, relevant to the age group 11-14 years.
  2. The test items for Language-I will focus on the proficiencies related to the medium of instruction, that is English.
  3. The Language- II will be a language other than Language- I. The person may choose any one language from among the available options being taught in Classes VI to VIII in the schools in Sikkim. The test items in Language-II will also focus on the elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities.
  4. The test items in Mathematics and Science will be of 30 marks each, and will focus on the Concepts, Problem Solving Abilities and Pedagogical understanding of these subjects. The test items of Social Studies will be of 60 marks evenly distributed between History, Geography and Civics as prescribed for classes VI to VIII by the State Government.
  5. The Questions in the test for Paper II will be based on the topics of the prescribed syllabus of the State for classes VI to VIII but, their difficulty level as well as linkage could be up to the Senior Secondary stage. The question paper shall be in English and questions in Vernacular will be in that Vernacular.

Pattern of Examination: STET questions will be of objective type.(Multiple Choice Question) There will be no negative marking. No. of MCQ (Multiple Choice Question) =150. All are compulsory. Duration of examination will be of 2:30 hrs.

Sikkim TET 2020 Sikkim Teacher Eligibility Test Answer Sheet

The candidate will be supplied carbonless O M R (Optical mark Reader) answer sheet consisting of two (2) copies the original copy and the duplicate copy below. Do not attempt to separate or displace them while answering without the carbon impression paper provided to the candidates. The candidate will be admitted to take the examination at the Centre specified in the Admission Certificate only and at no other Centre. The candidate has to indicate his response to each question by darkening the appropriate bubble with a Black Ball Point pen. No corrections with white fluid will be permitted.

In the OMR Answer Sheet, candidates should answer all the questions. As there is NO NEGATIVE MARKING, any one of the option should be PROPERLY blackened and options should not be left blank. A light, faintly and incomplete darkened circle is a wrong method for marking and liable to be rejected by the Optical Scanner Qualifying the STET would not confer any right for recruitment /employment as it is only one of the eligibility criteria for appointment.

The candidate should mention their own mobile number and E-Mail id while submitting their on-line application as the STET alerts will be sent to the candidates on their registered mobile number and E-Mail id only.

In the Sikkim TET 2020 Sikkim Teacher Eligibility Test examination hall, the call letter along with the candidate’s currently valid photo identity, in original, such as PAN Card/Passport/Driving Licence/Voter’s Card with photograph/Photo identity proof issued on original letter head by a Gazzetted Officer/People’s Representative or Identity Card issued by a recognised college/ University (valid in current year)/Aadhar card with a photograph/ Employee ID, should be submitted to the invigilator for verification.

Note: The candidate’s identity will be verified with respect to his/her details on the call letter and in the Attendance List. If identity of the candidate is in doubt the candidate will not be allowed to appear for the Online Examination.

Note: Entry in the Compound of the Examination Centre with Mobile/Cell Phones, Tablets, Laptop, Electronic Gadgets etc., is strictly prohibited. A Candidate who is found breaching the abovesaid direction or found to be indulging in ‘unfair practices’, viz. copying or misconduct during the course of examination, using electronic gadgets or Mobile Phones, etc., tampering with Question and/or Answer Paper, influencing any person concerned with the Elimination Test or Written Examination or Viva-voce Test, will be debarred from appearing for Preliminary Examination (Elimination Test) or Main Written Examination or Viva-voce Test, as the case may be, for that Examination Process or for any number of years or permanently.

Merit List: Candidates qualifying the norms as prescribed in the advertisement will be called for Written Test / online test. Selection will be based on the marks secured in the Written Test / online test in the order of merit.
